ALBERTA JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED
OTTAWA, May 14, 2010 – The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:
The Honourable Robert J. Hall, Q.C., is appointed judge of the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta in Calgary, to replace Mr. Justice Peter M. Clark, who elected to become a supernumerary judge as of April 25, 2010.
Mr. Justice Hall received a Bachelor of Arts (with distinction) in 1974 and Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) in 1977 from the University of Alberta. He was called to the Alberta Bar in 1978.
Mr. Justice Hall began practising with Scott Hall LLP (formerly Singleton Urquhart Scott) in 1995 and had been managing partner since 1998. He was an associate with Milner Fenerty (formerly known as Fenerty Robertson Fraser and Hatch and now known as Fraser Milner Casgrain) from 1977 to 1995. His main practice area was civil litigation, mostly insurance defence work.
Mr. Justice Hall was a sessional instructor at the University of Calgary (insurance law) and a lecturer at many seminars and conferences for the Legal Education Society of Alberta, the Law Society of Alberta, and the Canadian Defence Lawyers Association.
This appointment is effective immediately.
