FEDERAL COURT JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA, February 6, 2015 – The Honourable Peter MacKay, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Central Nova, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

The Honourable B. Richard Bell, a judge of the Court of Appeal of New Brunswick, is appointed a judge of the Federal Court to replace Madam. Justice Dolores Hansen, who elected to become supernumerary judge as of December 8, 2014.

Mr. Justice Bell was appointed to the Court of Appeal of New Brunswick in 2007 and a judge of the Court of Queen's Bench of New Brunswick, Trial Division, in 2006. Prior to his appointment, he had been a senior partner with McInnes Cooper in Fredericton and a partner with Buchanan Bell, where he practised labour and employment law, administrative law, and Aboriginal law.

Mr. Justice Bell received a Bachelor of Laws in 1979 and a Master of Laws in 1998, both from Dalhousie University. He was called to the Bar of New Brunswick in 1979 and appointed Queen's Counsel in 2004.

This appointment is effective immediately.
