OTTAWA, November 3, 2006 - The Honourable Vic Toews, Q.C., Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, announced today that after careful consideration, he has decided that it is not in the public interest to appeal the October 19, 2006, decision of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in Juliet O'Neill and The Ottawa Citizen v. the Attorney General of Canada.
The Minister indicated that the Government will consider legislative options to address Section 4 of the Security of Information Act within the context of the forthcoming reports of Parliamentary Committees reviewing issues related to the Anti-Terrorism Act.
