Family violence includes any form of abuse, mistreatment or neglect that children or adults experience with other members of their family. Through its participation in the Government of Canada’s Family Violence Initiative, the Department of Justice Canada works to reduce family violence in Canada.

October 1st: International Day of Older Persons
The International Day of Older Persons aims to foster international public awareness of theimportant social role of seniors in society and the benefits of intergenerational respect and support.


On June 15, 2009, the Government of Canada launched the Federal Elder Abuse Initiative public awareness campaign to:

  • help seniors and others recognize the signs and symptoms of elder abuse, and
  • to provide information on what support is available.
