Youth provide valuable insights into the needs and problems they face. Through various events and activities, youth bring the interests of young people to the forefront, while engaging this segment of society to be active members in dealing with youth crime.
- National Network of Sexually Exploited Youth
Save the Children Canada (SCC) is establishing a formal national network of sexually exploited children and youth as the foundation for preventing the criminal and commercial sexual exploitation of children and youth in Canada. This network will formalize and establish the youth group entitled "Sexually Exploited Youth Speak Out (SEYSO)," by youth who attended the Out of Shadows: International Summit of Sexually Exploited Youth held in Victoria, BC, in March 1998. This network is intended to facilitate community/youth links and provide direct assistance to grassroots agencies and organizations working with youth in the sex trade in order to develop community-mentoring relationships with each youth.
- Peer Helpers for Youth in Conflict with the Law: A Training Resource Development Project
The Training Resource Development Project of the National Youth in Care Network (NYICN) explores the concept of peer helping and will expand existing research on current peer helper models, programs, and theories. The goal is to produce a peer helping training curriculum, a companion workbook, and public education materials on peer helping among marginalized youth.
