She Shoots, She Scores!

OTTAWA – Katie Lugg, of the Department of Justice Canada's Management Sector, was a member of the silver-medal winning Team Canada at the World Ringette Championships in Tampere, Finland, in November 2010.

Lugg, a Senior Administrative Officer, started her ringette career at the age of six. She has played in nine national championships, as well as competing at the Ontario and Canada Winter Games (winning gold in both) and has been a three-time National Team member.

The 25-year-old plays for the Ottawa Ice in the National Ringette League. While studying commerce at the University of Ottawa, she also captained the women's soccer team and in 2009 was named uOttawa's women's President Award winner for academics, athletics and community service. Lugg was also recognized as the Gee-Gees' female athlete of the year for her tremendous work ethic and leadership.

"I can't remember the number of times I had to say I couldn't attend a social event because I had ringette," she said. "We all make sacrifices and find a way to make it work. We give a lot of time and a lot of energy. That moment when you get the jersey just makes everything so worth it. It's that feeling: 'This is it, I've made it.' "
