The Kwanlin Dün First Nation has entered into a funding agreement with the Department of Justice Canada to manage and deliver the Kwanlin Dün First Nation Social Justice Program. The Program has four objectives: to promote awareness and understanding of behaviours and actions that can cause or prevent crime; to assist the community in resolving its own disputes; to empower the community so it can assume greater responsibility for its justice issues; and to support the community in healing after it has been harmed.
The Program accomplishes these goals by operating a pre- and post-charge diversion program, with an emphasis on reintegration and prevention. Information is also provided to community members about the Program.
Partnerships continue to grow with justice service delivery agencies such as legal aid, youth and adult probations, child and family services, other First Nation governments, Royal Canadian Mounted Police and local not for profit organizations. The Program offers services to urban Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal clients and to all Yukon Communities.
