Purpose: The St. Theresa Point First Nation has entered into a funding agreement with the Department of Justice Canada to manage and deliver the St. Theresa Point Tribal Court System Program. The Program is a community-based diversion program serving both adults and youth, that provides restorative justice alternatives in the community of St. Theresa Point, Manitoba. This fly-in community is only accessible by plane, boat and winter road, and is therefore served by a circuit court which flies in every three months. The objective of the Program is to engage community members to determine and deliver a culturally and community appropriate justice program in partnership with federal and provincial justice stakeholders, that addresses unwanted and criminal activity in the community. The Program receives diversions from the court, RCMP, and Band Constables. Through the delivery of traditional healing circles, offender-victim mediation and counselling, the Program supports community and victim healing, wrongdoer restoration and addresses substance abuse and incidental offending behaviour.
