Purpose: The Mi'kmaq Confederacy of PEI has entered into a funding agreement with the Department of Justice Canada to plan and deliver the 2012 Atlantic Circle Keeper Workshop Project. The objectives of the Project are to bring together Circle Keepers, Case Workers, Aboriginal Court Workers, Aboriginal Victim Assistant Workers, Community & Correctional Service Workers, Fisheries, law enforcement and Aboriginal Justice Workers from across the Atlantic Provinces (PEI, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland) to address community and social justice issues, discuss alternative ways to resolve conflict at the root-cause level, and to develop a comprehensive data management system for the region. Participants of the workshop will work collaboratively to find ways to address the needs of both Aboriginal victims and offenders as well as explore various situations in which the Aboriginal Justice Circle can be used as a vehicle for conflict resolution, problem-solving, community building, and healing.
