Purpose: The Lesser Slave Lake Indian Regional Council has entered into a funding agreement with the Department of Justice Canada to implement and manage the Finding Balance Justice Program. The primary objective of the Program is to strengthen traditional justice values and approaches which enables the delivery of culturally appropriate services to those in contact with the justice system and to support overall community wellness. The Program delivers prevention, education and awareness, pre- and post-charge diversion and alternative measures to Lesser Slave Lake Indian Regional Council community members, families and youth. Activities that are undertaken by the Program include the development of training tools, workshop delivery which support community justice models and enhancing Elder involvement in all aspects of community justice planning and decision making. Working partners of the Program include the Lakeshore Regional Police Services and CHOICES Youth Program. The Finding Balance Justice Program serves the five communities of: Driftpile First Nation, Kapawe'no First Nation, Sawridge First Nation, Sucker Creek First Nation and Swan River First Nation.
