The Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation has entered into a funding agreement with the Department of Justice Canada to manage the Old Crow Justice Committee Program.
The Old Crow Justice Committee Program objective is to implement and operate a pre- and post-charge diversion program that offers alternative and traditional measures for the residents of Old Crow.
The Justice Committee members have adopted an incremental approach to the development and implementation of justice initiatives. The Committee largely addresses offences under the Old Crow Liquor Prohibition Regulations. This gives focus to the Program while allowing members to gain experience in post-charge diversion so they can gradually take on other community-based justice processes. The Program has strong working relationships with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Crown and other justice organizations and provides services to Old Crow community and surrounding areas.
