The Mohawk Council of Kahnawake (MCK) has entered into a funding agreement with the Department of Justice Canada to plan and deliver the Forum on Family Violence Project. The Ministère de la Justice du Québec will be contributing an equal amount of funds to the project, and the MCK will be providing in-kind support.
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawake will host the 3 day regional Forum on Family Violence to bring together stakeholders and professionals from various fields (social, police, judicial, community, correctional, victims, Aboriginal Courtworkers, health, etc.) who are intervening in family violence along with all the AJS funded community-based justice programs of Québec to share a common vision and understanding of family violence, identify solutions together and learn how to better work together.
The objectives of the Forum on Family Violence are the following: better assess the nature, scope, causes and development of family violence in an Aboriginal context and discuss different understandings of family violence in Aboriginal communities; explore winning strategies and approaches to prevent and respond to family violence with a view to informing practices; and promote working together and engaging services and psychosocial, police, judicial, correctional and community stakeholders to act on family violence in the Aboriginal context.
