The Cultural Communications Group Inc. has entered into a funding agreement with the Department of Justice Canada to manage and host the 2016 Regional Justice Gathering entitled "Collaboratively Working Towards Reconciliation". The 3-day event is to be held in Niagara Falls, October 12-14, 2016. A total of 170 participants are expected, including Aboriginal court workers, lawyers, court-related representatives and the Three Fires Community Council and Advisory members. The objective of the event is to provide an opportunity for Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal justice stakeholders to build capacity and acquire knowledge on how to foster bridges between the mainstream justice system and Aboriginal community justice programs. The event will increase awareness of the underlying factors of a justice system that more fairly serves Indigenous justice needs. Activities include presentations from justice experts, interactive exercises, a facilitated engagement session, and an evening of celebration, marking the 15th anniversary of the Three Fires Community Justice Program and the accomplishments of the Aboriginal Justice Strategy.
