Harmonization of federal legislation with the civil law of the Province of Quebec – Consultation

The Department of Justice is conducting, until April 30, 2008, a consultation on the Third series of proposals to harmonize federal law with the civil law of the Province of Quebec (the consultation started on February 1, 2008).

The proposals focus on the Canada Business Corporations Act, R.S., c. C‑44, and the Expropriation Act, R.S., c. E‑21.

Comments received will be considered during the preparation of a potential third harmonization bill.

Second Special Issue of the Revue juridique Thémis

A second special issue of the Revue juridique Thémis produced in collaboration with the Department of Justice of Canada under the initiative to harmonize federal legislation with the civil law of the Province of Quebec was launched on February 20, 2008. This special issue (Volume 42, Nos. 1 and 2 – 2008) is devoted to harmonization and bijuralism issues related to the Canada Business Corporations Act. You will find papers written by experts in corporate law, discussing in depth some harmonization proposals included in the Consultation Document published for the consultation described above.

All people who received by mail the Consultation Document on the Third series of proposals to harmonize federal law with the civil law of the Province of Quebec will also receive a copy of this special issue.
