OTTAWA, February 27, 2015 – The Honourable Peter MacKay, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Central Nova, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

The Honourable Michel Pennou, a Crown prosecutor with the office of the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions, is appointed a puisne judge of the Superior Court of Quebec, district of Montreal, to replace Mr. Justice R. Mongeau (Montreal), who resigned effective January 13, 2015.

Mr. Justice Pennou received a Bachelor of Laws from l'Université de Montréal in 1990 and was called to the Bar of Quebec in 1992. He was a Crown prosecutor with the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions since 2012 and a Crown in the Appeals Division from 2001 to 2012. Prior to that, he was a lawyer with the firms Séguin, Cardinal, Sylvain from 1999 to 2001; Bertrand, Pennou from 1997 to 1999; and Melançon Bertrand et Associés from 1996 to 1997. After being called to the bar, he was a research assistant to Professor Karim Benyekhlef of l'Université de Montréal from 1992 to 1993.

This appointment is effective immediately.
