Figure 1 – Annual Admissions, Releases and Review Board Population Growth (1992-2015)

2005 to 2015 based on projections using existing trends

Figure 1, line and bar graph representing the review board population growth, annual admissions and annual releases from the years 1992 projected to 2015. [Description]

  1. Releases includes all cases that were given an absolute discharge or returned to court and found fit, cases where the charges were withdrawn or stayed, cases that were transferred to another province, or cases where the accused died.
  2. Population growth represents the accumulated difference between admissions and releases each year.

Long description

The left Y axis represents the number of review board admissions and releases. The left Y axis increases in increments of 100 from 0 to 1300, from bottom to top.

The right Y axis represents the cumulative review board population growth. The right Y axis increases in increments of 500 from 0 to 5000, from bottom to top.

The X axis lists the years 1992 to 2015, from left to right.

The top line presents the number of review board admissions and shows that in 1992, the admission rate was approximately 400. The line shows that the number of admissions increased after 1992 and began decreasing in 1998, hitting over 500 in 2000. The admissions rate began increasing after 2000 and is projected to hit around 4500 in 2015.

The second line presents the number of review board releases and shows that in 1992, the number of releases was approximately 200. The line shows that the number of releases has increased and is expected to be around 4000 by 2015.

The two lines demonstrate that although the two lines show an increase in the number of review board admissions and releases, the number of admissions has remained larger.

The bar graph shows the review board population growth between 1992 and 2015. The bars show that in 1992, the population of NCRMD/UST in the review board system was below 500. The bars increase after 1992 and the population in the review board is expected to grow and reach approximately 4500in 2015.
