Gender Identity and Gender Expression - Text Version
Gender Identity, Gender Expression
Canada celebrates inclusion and diversity. All Canadians should feel safe to be themselves.
The legislation would protect individuals from discrimination based on gender identity and gender expression in the Canadian Human Rights Act.
The Criminal Code would expand the reasons for longer sentences for hate-motivated criminal offences to include gender identity and gender expression.
The legislation would ensure that everyone can express their gender as they choose, protected from discrimination, hate propaganda and hate crimes.
Gender diversity includes all transgender, gender-fluid, non-binary, two-spirit, cisgender, and other gender identities.
