Tax Court Of Canada Judicial Appointment
OTTAWA, June 7, 2013 – The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:
The Honourable Kathleen T. Lyons, a lawyer with the Department of Justice Canada in Edmonton, is appointed a judge of the Tax Court of Canada, to replace Mr. Justice W. Webb, who was appointed a judge of the Federal Court of Appeal on October 4, 2012.
Madam Justice Lyons received her Bachelor of Laws from the University of Wales, U.K., in 1986 and was admitted to the Bar of Alberta in 1988.
Following her call to the Alberta Bar, Madam Justice Lyons joined the Department of Justice Canada in Edmonton. Since 2007, she has been General Counsel with Tax Law Services. From 2000 to 2007, she served as Director of the Tax Law Services for Alberta and from 1988 to 1999 she was Deputy Group Head of the Tax Law Services. Her main areas of practice were tax and civil litigation.
Madam Justice Lyons has been a member of numerous Justice Committees, including the National E-discovery Tax Law Services Working Group, the National Litigation Practice Group, the Prairie Region Law and Litigation Committee and the National Legal Information Advisory Committee.
This appointment is effective immediately.
