PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED
OTTAWA, October 2, 2013 – The Honourable Peter MacKay, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Central Nova, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:
The Honourable Nancy L. Key, a lawyer with McInnes Cooper in Summerside is appointed a judge of the Supreme Court of Prince Edward Island, to replace Mr. Justice J.K. Mitchell, who was appointed to the Court of Appeal.
Madam Justice Key received a Bachelor of Laws in 1981 from Dalhousie University. She was admitted to the Bar of Prince Edward Island in 1982 and appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2001.
Madam Justice Key began practising with Key and Key in 1982. In 2008, the firm then known as Key, McKnight & Maynard merged with McInnes Cooper. Her areas of practice were primarily family law, estate planning, and real estate law.
Madam Justice Key is a member of the Discipline Policies and Procedure Committee and Discipline Committee Chair for the Law Society of Prince Edward Island. She is also a member of the following organizations: Collaborative Law Prince Edward Island, Mediation PEI Inc., and Family Mediation Canada. In addition, she serves on the boards of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation-Atlantic and the Prince Edward Island Business Women’s Association, and is a former board member of the Prince County Family Services Bureau.
This appointment is effective immediately.
