FEDERAL COURT OF APPEAL JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED
OTTAWA, February 27, 2015 – The Honourable Peter MacKay, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Central Nova, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:
The Honourable Donald J. Rennie, a judge of the Federal Court, is appointed a judge of the Federal Court of Appeal to replace Mr. Justice J.D. Pelletier, who elected to become a supernumerary judge as of February 16, 2014.
Mr. Justice Rennie was appointed to the Federal Court in 2010. At the time of his appointment, he was Assistant Deputy Attorney General (Litigation) since 2006. He was with the Department of Justice Canada since he was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1981. His main areas of practice were public and constitutional law, tort liability and commercial law.
Mr. Justice Rennie received a Bachelor of Laws from Dalhousie University in 1978. He has also co-authored Federal Courts Practice since 1988, and The Annotated Crown Liability Act in 1995.
This appointment is effective immediately.
