OVERVIEW OF THE COMPENDIUM ANNEX

The Compendium of Promising Practices to Reduce Violence and Increase Safety of Aboriginal Women in Canada comprises two documents: the Compendium and the Compendium Annex. The Compendium document presents the high level summaries, in half-page templates, of the programs and practices related to reducing violence and increasing safety of Aboriginal women in Canada. The Compendium Annex is designed for use as a companion document to the Compendium, to enable readers to easily cross-reference practices and obtain more detailed information about a particular practice. In the Compendium Annex, readers can access information such as: an overview and more in-depth description of the program; the components and services that comprise the program; the ways traditional practices are integrated; sources of funding for the program; relationships with stakeholders and partners; information related to program evaluation if one has been completed; highlights of the evaluation findings; and a summary of the program outcomes. For readers interested in exploring whether this practice could be adapted for their community, agency contacts have also provided information highlighting challenges, achievements, and things to know in order to adapt or replicate the program.

Information related to the practices was taken from the interviews conducted by independent data collectors and edited for length, grammar and spelling. As much as possible, the "voice" of the interviewee has been preserved; as such, readers may notice differences in the amount, type and tone of information contained within each practice description.
