Figure 8: Percentage of respondents who indicated that the following responses would be “highly effective” in promoting acceptable behaviour among youth. This is a horizontal bar chart that illustrates the degree to which respondents felt that specified factors would be highly effective in promoting acceptable behaviour among youth. Respondents could indicate if they felt more than one factor could be highly effective in promoting acceptable behaviour among youth, therefore the total of all percentages will equal more than 100. The Y-axis is divided into 7 categories. The Y-axis lists the following categories from top to bottom:
- providing educational or employment skills,
- informal programs designed to repair harm,
- conditional supervision (e.g., probation),
- psychological or psychiatric counseling,
- youth prison,
- stern warnings by a police officer
- and adult prison.
Respondents felt that the specified responses would be highly effective in promoting acceptable behaviour among youth as follows:
- providing educational or employment skills - 68%,
- informal programs designed to repair harm – 58%,
- conditional supervision (e.g., probation) – 54%,
- psychological or psychiatric counseling –49%,
- youth prison – 22%,
- stern warnings by a police officer – 22%
- and adult prison – 18%.
