- judges should provide culturally appropriate sentencing for Aboriginal youth by first considering a sentence that does not involve jail – strongly agree 9%, agree 29%, disagree 39% and strongly disagree 23%;
- putting youth in jail is an effective method of correcting behaviour – strongly agree 8%, agree 40%, disagree 40% and strongly disagree 12%;
- the youth’s circumstances should be taken into consideration at sentencing – strongly agree 16%, agree 56%, disagree 22% and strongly disagree 7%;
- jail should only be used for violent youth and repeat offenders – strongly agree 23%, agree 48%, disagree 22% and strongly disagree 7%;
- protecting society from crime should be the focus of the youth justice system – strongly agree 28%, agree 54%, disagree 15% and strongly disagree 3%;
- rehabilitation is an important goal of the youth justice system – strongly agree 42%, agree 51%, disagree 5% and strongly disagree 2%.
