This is a horizontal bar graph that shows the most serious offence groupings for Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal youth in custody.
The x-axis shows the percentage of youth in custody by intervals of 5, from 0 to 25.
The y-axis is divided into 17 categories, from top to bottom: driving offences, drug possession, drug trafficking, administration of justice offences, other property offences, mischief, theft over, break & enter, weapons offences, other violent offences, robbery, other sexual offences, sexual assault, assault, serious sexual assault, serious assault, homicide/attempted homicide. Each category is divided into two sub-categories, from top to bottom: non-Aboriginal youth and Aboriginal youth.
- For driving offences, approximately 4% of youth in custody were Aboriginal youth and approximately 3% were non-Aboriginal youth.
- For drug possession, approximately 2% of youth in custody were Aboriginal youth and approximately 4% were non-Aboriginal youth.
- For drug trafficking, approximately 2% of youth in custody were Aboriginal youth and approximately 0.5% were non-Aboriginal youth.
- For administration of justice offences, approximately 6% of youth in custody were Aboriginal youth and approximately 9% were non-Aboriginal youth.
- For other property offences, approximately 1.5% of youth in custody were Aboriginal youth and approximately 5.2% were non-Aboriginal youth.
- For mischief, approximately 2.5% of youth in custody were Aboriginal youth and approximately 2.5% were non-Aboriginal youth.
- For theft over, approximately 9.5% of youth in custody were Aboriginal youth and approximately 14% were non-Aboriginal youth.
- For break & enter, approximately 19% of youth in custody were Aboriginal youth and approximately 18.5% were non-Aboriginal youth.
- For weapons offences, approximately 3% of youth in custody were Aboriginal youth and approximately 1.5% were non-Aboriginal youth.
- For other violent offences, approximately 4.9% of youth in custody were Aboriginal youth and approximately 4% were non-Aboriginal youth.
- For robbery, approximately 13% of youth in custody were Aboriginal youth and approximately 17% were non-Aboriginal youth.
- For other sexual offences, approximately 2% of youth in custody were Aboriginal youth and approximately 0.2% were non-Aboriginal youth.
- For sexual assault, approximately 4% of youth in custody were Aboriginal youth and approximately 5% were non-Aboriginal youth.
