This is a horizontal bar graph that shows the most serious charge groupings for Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal youth on remand.
The x-axis shows the percentage of youth on remand by intervals of 2, from 0 to 20.
The y-axis is divided into 16 categories, from top to bottom: driving offences, drug possession, drug trafficking, administration of justice offences, other property offences, mischief, theft over, break & enter, weapons offences, other violent offences, robbery, sexual assault, assault, serious sexual assault, serious assault, homicide/attempted homicide. Each category is subdivided into two categories, from top to bottom: non-Aboriginal youth and Aboriginal youth.
- For driving offences, approximately 2.2% of youth on remand were Aboriginal youth and approximately 2% were non-Aboriginal youth.
- For drug possession, approximately 0.5% of youth on remand were Aboriginal youth and approximately 5% were non-Aboriginal youth.
- For drug trafficking, approximately 0.8% of youth on remand were Aboriginal youth and approximately 1.5% were non-Aboriginal youth.
- For administration of justice offences, approximately 10.5% of youth on remand were Aboriginal youth and approximately 15% were non-Aboriginal youth.
- For other property offences, approximately 2.5% of youth on remand were Aboriginal youth and approximately 4.5% were non-Aboriginal youth.
- For mischief, approximately 2.3% of youth on remand were Aboriginal youth and approximately 2.5% were non-Aboriginal youth.
- For theft over, approximately 11.7% of youth on remand were Aboriginal youth and approximately 9% were non-Aboriginal youth.
- For break & enter, approximately 15% of youth on remand were Aboriginal youth and approximately 10.5% were non-Aboriginal youth.
- For weapons offences, approximately 2.3% of youth on remand were Aboriginal youth and approximately 1.7% were non-Aboriginal youth.
- For other violent offences, approximately 5.5% of youth on remand were Aboriginal youth and approximately 4.3% were non-Aboriginal youth.
- For robbery, approximately 4.3% of youth on remand were Aboriginal youth and approximately 17% were non-Aboriginal youth.
- For sexual assault, approximately 1.5% of youth on remand were Aboriginal youth and approximately 2.5% were non-Aboriginal youth.
