Figure 2 above is a broken-line graph showing the number of adults charged with drug offences, by type of offence, in Ontario from 1977 to 1998. The X axis shows the year; the Y axis shows the number of adults charged, in increments of 2,000, from 0 to 20,000. There are two broken lines: one (dark blue) showing the number of charges of drug possession; the other (pink) showing the number of charges of drug trafficking, importing and growing.

The number of adults charged with drug possession is high from 1977 to 1982, between 17,000 and 19,000. It then decreases and remains at approximately 10,000 until 1998.

The number of adults charged with drug trafficking, importing and growing remains relatively stable from one year to the next, with minor fluctuations. Il ranges from 2,418 to 5,775.
