Description

This figure is a broken-line graph showing the actual (1977-1998) and projected (1999-2003) number of adults charged with drug offences in Ontario. The number of adults charged reaches 20,388 cases in 1977, decreases slightly to below 18,000 cases in 1978 before again increasing until 1981, when there were more than 20,000 cases. It then decreases until 1985, where the number of cases is at its lowest for the period studied, at 11,611. It then increases again during the 1985-1989 period, before decreasing until 1998, when there were 14,354 cases. The 1999-2003 projection shows strong stability, and the number of adults charged with drug offences should remain just below 15,000 cases.
