State of the Criminal Justice System Report: A Focus on Youth (2024)

State of the Criminal Justice System Report
A Focus on Youth (2024)

The inaugural State of the Criminal Justice System Report (2019) provided a comprehensive analysis of Canada’s criminal justice system performance across key Framework indicators. This edition of the State of the Criminal Justice System (SOCJS) report focuses on the performance of the youth criminal justice system (CJS) from 2017/2018 to 2021/2022, using the SOCJS Youth-Adapted Framework. Notably, the report explores: community safety; public awareness and confidence in the youth CJS; court operations and efficiencies; trends in the use of incarceration and community-based resolutions; and the overrepresentation of Indigenous youth and Black youth in the system.
