Departmental Network of Coordinators Responsible for the Implementation of Section 41 of the Official Languages Act

The Departmental Network of Coordinators Responsible for the Implementation of Section 41 of the Official Languages Act (OLA) is one of the pillars of the implementation of Section 41 of the OLA within the Department of Justice Canada. Administered by the Justice in Official Languages Team, the Network is made up of Regional Coordinators and Program and Policy Coordinators.

What is Section 41 of the Official Languages Act?

In accordance with Section 41 of the OLA, the Government of Canada is committed to enhancing the vitality of the English and French linguistic minority communities in Canada and supporting their development; and fostering the full recognition and use of both English and French in Canadian society. Also, every federal institution, including the Department of Justice Canada, has the duty to ensure that positive measures are taken to fulfill this commitment, while respecting the jurisdiction and powers of the provinces.

Regional Coordinators

The Regional Coordinators are lawyers in the Department of Justice Canada, part of whose duties is to see that Section 41 of the Official Languages Act is implemented in each region. They work in close collaboration with the Justice in Official Languages Team, the Department's Program and Policy Coordinators, as well as their counterparts in the other departments in their respective regions. They must also establish close ties with community organizations.

As Regional Coordinators, they mainly participate in activities for raising awareness, inter-departmental networks in their regions and events organized by community organizations.
