At the Child Witness Centre, we provide support and walk with children, youth and their families who are victims or witnesses of crime through the court process. We provide them with information about their case and the judicial system, accompany them to court, and support them throughout the process. We have found that with our support, children and youth are less anxious and fearful. They feel empowered and more able to use their voice and tell their story. While we can’t control the outcome in the courtroom, we can influence a child’s emotional well-being by walking the journey with them, and providing the best support possible to child victims and witnesses. This ultimately gives them a better chance at being able to move on and live normal and healthy lives as adults. More than 500 children and youth are assisted each year in Waterloo Region, Guelph and Wellington County.
