Public consultation on the Privacy Act – Submission – Glenn Brown

Having consulted on the original PIPEDA (one, I believe, of only 19 in the general public), I have read this entire document carefully. It certainly demonstrates the complexity of the matter in great detail, and I commend the government for looking so carefully and broadly. I paid particular attention to the matters of consent, having spent seven years on a Research Ethics Board at a local university, and being familiar with the Tricouncil Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans.

I applaud the general direction of the suggestions to clarify, detail, and expand the protections for the individual, including what the courts can do, and the broadening interpretation regarding administrative procedures.
